Psychological Symptoms of Compulsive Overeating

As with other eating disorders, the psychological effects of compulsive overeating are often as debilitating and severe as the medical consequences. Patients suffer from the following problems:

  • Mood swings and depression.
  • Insomnia – having problems falling and/or staying asleep.
  • Low self esteem and feelings of inadequacy.
  • Poor self image and deprecating thoughts about their weight.
  • Feelings of guilt and shame.
  • Isolation.
