Using Your True Voice

Many people suffering from eating disorders find it very difficult to ask for help and to express how they are really feeling. They talk about themselves in relation to their eating disorder but part of recover is about learning to communicate how you are really feeling and what help you really need. You have to be able to tell someone you are feeling insecure. You need to learn to say, “I’m feeling sad today, I could use a hug.” Using your true voice is about the benefit you get in doing so.

There are many ways to learn to express yourself through recovery. Sometimes it will be by taking risks to just say how you feel to someone you trust. Sometimes it will be to write a letter to someone, expressing your emotions. A good place to start is in a journal, in therapy or a support group, or perhaps on a support forum. One such forum is the Eating Disorder Forum on Uncommonforum.
